Checking Top Token Holders
Every token has a holder list. Wallets ranked by how much they hold, biggest first.
Pull up any token on Etherscan or Solscan. Click the holders tab. See exactly who owns what percentage. Public information. Available instantly.
Top holders tells you who controls the supply. Controls the supply means controls the price.
Not Every Large Holder Is a Red Flag
Common mistake. See a wallet holding 15% and immediately assume insider or scammer.
Some large holders are completely normal.
Binance or Coinbase hot wallet appearing as top holder. Exchange holding tokens on behalf of thousands of retail users. One address representing an enormous number of individual holders. Not a red flag.
Uniswap or Raydium liquidity pool contract appearing near the top. Normal DEX mechanics. Tokens sitting in the pool for trading. Expected.
Staking contract holding a large percentage. Users deposited there to earn rewards. Legitimate.
Unknown wallet with no label holding 12% that was funded by the deployer three days ago. Different story entirely.
What Actually Matters
Label first. Is the large holder a known entity or an unknown address.
DEXScreener and Arkham Intelligence label known wallets. Binance, Coinbase, major protocols all tagged. Unknown wallets show no label. Those are the ones requiring closer inspection.
After label, look at concentration. Top 10 unknown wallets combined holding above 30% of circulating supply excluding exchanges and contracts. Elevated risk. Above 50% concentrated in unknown wallets. Serious concern.
Then look at connections. Bubblemaps shows whether large unknown holders share funding sources or transaction history with the deployer. Coordinated wallets disguised as independent holders. Visualized clearly. Pattern that's hard to spot reading raw transaction data becomes obvious on a bubble map.
Watching Where Top Holders Move
Static snapshot of who holds what is one piece. Movement tells more.
Top holder wallet starts sending tokens to a known exchange deposit address. Potential sell incoming. Doesn't guarantee it. Some people move to exchanges then hold there. But the signal is worth noting.
Multiple top holders moving to exchanges simultaneously. Coordination possible. Smart money exiting before a dump. Pattern that shows up repeatedly before major price collapses on smaller tokens.
Top holder accumulating more during a price dip. Buying weakness. Could signal conviction from someone who knows the project. Could also be insiders accumulating before an announcement.
Dormant top holder wallet suddenly active after months of inactivity. Worth watching. Large holder who hasn't touched their position deciding to move is meaningful regardless of direction.
GMGN and Arkham both track wallet movements in real time. Set up alerts on significant top holder wallets before entering any meaningful position.
