What Is Holder Distribution?
How many wallets hold a token and how much each one controls.
Token where five wallets hold 60% of supply. Five people effectively own the market. One coordinated sell wipes the chart.
Token with supply spread across 50,000 wallets. No single entity moves price alone. Much harder to manipulate.
Same token. Completely different risk profile.
What the Numbers Actually Mean
Top 10 wallets excluding known exchanges and liquidity pool contracts holding more than 30% of circulating supply. Warning sign. Single non-contract wallet holding more than 5% warrants investigation into who controls it.
Five wallets holding 40-50% combined. Serious red flag. That level of concentration means price is effectively controlled by a small group regardless of how organic the community looks on the surface.
Important distinction though. Some large holders are legitimate. CEX wallets hold tokens on behalf of thousands of users. Liquidity pool contracts hold tokens as part of normal DEX mechanics. Staking contracts. These aren't red flags. Unknown wallets with no label holding large percentages are.
The Disguised Concentration Problem
Sophisticated actors don't hold 40% in one wallet. They split it.
Deployer holds 5% directly. Funds ten separate wallets each holding 3-4%. All look independent on the surface. Combined they control 35-40% of supply.
Bubblemaps visualizes this. Wallet clusters showing shared funding sources, similar transaction timing, identical behavior patterns. Reveals coordination that raw holder lists completely miss.
Single wallet concentration is obvious. Distributed concentration across connected wallets is what actually appears in most serious rugpulls and coordinated dumps. Tools matter here more than just reading the top holder list.
How to Check It
Etherscan and Solscan show top holders directly on any token page. Pull up the contract. Click holders tab. See percentage breakdown.
But read it carefully. Uniswap V2 pair contract appearing as top holder is normal. That's the liquidity pool. Binance hot wallet appearing is normal. Exchange holding customer funds.
Unknown wallet addresses with no label holding 10, 15, 20% each. That's what matters. Especially if funded from the same source wallet or showing similar buy timing.
DEXScreener surfaces holder data. Bubblemaps the clearest visualization for seeing wallet connections. BubbleMaps specifically built for detecting disguised concentration across connected wallets.
